Chin augmentation in Düsseldorf

Enhancing the chin contour is a typical reason for people to undergo a chin augmentation. If the chin is too small (receding chin), the procedure aims to create a more balanced profile. Alternatively, the patient may want a more striking shape. In contrast, patients may seek a chin reduction to treat a protruding chin or liposuction to eliminate a double chin.

How is chin augmentation surgery performed at the Klinik am Rhein?

We use the latest 3D technology with the camera system VECTRA XT for chin augmentation surgery to create a simulation of the desired result. This image is used as a basis to select the right implant from a range of anatomically shaped full silicone implants. A small incision that cannot be seen from the outside is made in the inner oral mucosa, where the pocket is prepared and the implant is inserted. Alternatively, access from the outside through the lower chin fold can be selected.

In order to correct a protruding chin, a similar incision is made to file away the bone in order to create the desired shape and achieve an overall harmonious contour.

What has to be considered after the procedure?

The outpatient surgery takes about one hour and is performed under general anaesthesia. After the procedure, the patient remains in the clinic for 1-2 hours for observation and can then go home on the same day. The specialist is available via an emergency phone number in case of any complications. A special compression bandage should be worn on the chin for 1 week to ensure the wounds heal properly and an aesthetic facial profile is achieved. The first check-up is after 3-4 days, and the final check-up occurs after 12 weeks.

What are the risks of a chin augmentation?

The most common side effects of chin augmentations are slight temporary swelling and bruising on the chin. More serious complications are generally very rare. However, wound healing disorders or a numb feeling can occur in some cases.
